La Sirena, a Mexican arts, crafts and clothing store, reopened at 27 East Third Street, between Bowery and Second Avenue, on Nov. 20 after closing its 107 Avenue B location eight months ago.
Dina Leor Isaacson, La Sirena's owner, bought a variety of merchandise directly from artisans in Oaxaca and Puebla, Mexico, for the opening.
The store's yellow walls, blue tile floors and red, green, and purple jalapeno lights in the window match the colors of the Mexican aprons ($13-$25), ponchos ($18-$175), baskets ($15-$50), blankets ($35-$45), and hand-carved and painted wooden animals called ''alebrijes'' ($8-$125) that are on sale.
Ms. Isaacson named her store ''La Sirena'' (''The Mermaid'') simply because she ''loves the ocean.'' She also sells ornaments decorated with mermaids in the new store.
Hours through the Christmas holidays are Monday through Thursday from noon to 7 p.m., Friday and Saturday from noon to 8 p.m., and Sunday from noon to 5 p.m.
